What we will not do
This list is published so you know the limits before you write to us.
- Work outside India
- Access anyone's phone, email, social media or computer
- Obtain call records, bank statements, tax records or Aadhaar data
- Record or intercept anyone's calls or messages
- Track a person's live location, or fit trackers to vehicles we do not own
- Take covert photographs or video in private places
- Enter private premises, or use a false identity to get access or information
- Take a case where the person being checked may be at risk of violence or coercion
- Take a case from someone subject to a protection or restraining order, or where it looks like harassment of an ex-partner
- Find someone who has deliberately gone away
- Anything intended to blackmail, extort or defame
